      While social Geography in Europe and Cultural Geography in American have emerged as the important components of syllabuses of geography at the university levels, human Geography still continues to be the integral part to the course structure in most of the geography departments of the developing countries. Indian universities are no exception to this. In fact , in sixty- one out the seventy universities of Indian in which geography is being taught at the post- graduate level, Human Geography is one of the core courses,

      In a narrow sense, the term , Human Geograohy’has been defined as the “synthetic study of the relationship between human societies and the ‘environment” By 1980, Human Geography has however, been widened to become an omnibus tern, describing all those parts of geography which  are not solely concerned either  with under geographical subfields such as Cartography. The broad subfields of Human Geography,  political geography ,Economics geography, Historical Geography, Regional Geography , social Geography, Agricultural Geography, Industrial Geography, Urban Geography, Transport Geography, Medical Geography and Geography of Gender.

     The present book has been written because no  other  textbook has dealt satisfactorily with all the main topics of human Geography which are prescribed in the syllabuses of geography which are prescribed in the syllabuses of the geography courses.
