About Book:
We are pleased to bring out our first edition of “Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing” book for Engineering and Technology studies. This book is written to serve the needs of undergraduate students embarking on an introductory course in CAD/ CAM. This book is based on the latest syllabus prescribed by the Anna University, Channel for Semester Mechanical Engineering students of its affiliated colleges This book consists of 5 units.
Unit 1 deals with the introduction to CAD CAM in which various topics such as product cycle, design process, sequential and concurrent engineering CAD system architecture, computer graphics, coordinate systems, 20 and 3D transformations, homogeneous coordinates, line drawing, clipping viewing transformation, manufacturing Planning, manufacturing control CAD CAM concepts, types of production, manufacturing models and metrics and mathematical models of production performance are covered
Unit 2 describes various concepts of geometrical modeling which include representation of Hermite, Bezier, B-spline curves and rational curves, techniques for surface modeling, surface patch, Coons and bicubic patches, Bezier and B-spline surfaces, solid modeling techniques, CSG and B-rep
Unit 3 covers the different CAD standards such as Graphical Kernel System (GKS), standards for exchange images, Open Graphics Library (OpenGL), IGES, STEP, CALS data exchange standards and communication standards.
. Unit 4 has an in-depth dealing of two major topics such as CNC machines and part programming, Introduction to NC systems and CNC, machine axis and coordinate system, CNC machine tools, principle of operation CNC. construction features including structure, drives and CNC controllers, 2D and 3D machining on CNC are covered under fundamentals of CNC whereas part programming covers introduction of part programming, types, detailed manual part programming (FANUC) on lathe and milling machines using G codes and M codes, cutting eyeles, loops, sub program and macros, This unit also covers introduction of CAM package.
Unit 5 deals with three major topics such as Group Technology (GT), cellular manufacturing and Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS). Under GT various topics such as part families, parts classification and coding. Simple problems in OpitzPart coding system and production flow analysis are discussed, FMS covers types of flexibility, FMS components, FMS application & benefits, FMS planning and control and quantitative analysis in FMS.
Important solved Anna University questions, and Two mark questions and answers have been added at the tail end of each unit which will enable the students to score high marks in the University examinations. Model Solved Anna University Question Papers have been added at the end of this book.
With these features, we sincerely hope that this book would serve as a valuable
text for the students.
