About Book:
As we aware, materials are evolving faster today than every before. Today it is fully accepted that a sound knowledge of the science and technology of materials is very essential to the engineers and technologists for optimal utilization of resources in scientific research, technological and industrial applications. In fact, the importance of the subject ‘Engineering Materials and Metallurgy’ has made me to write a book on it. Ofcourse, this book is written in tune with the latest syllabus of Anna University and I have taken the syllabus as guidelines for the organization of this text.
In writing this book, I have constantly kept in mind the tremendous amount of ground which the students and the practicing engineers of today is expected to cover. No effort has been spared to enrich the book with simple language and self-explanatory diagrams. At the end of each unit review and summary, key terms to remember, and self-assessment questions are given for the students to consolidate their learning. I sincerely hope that this book will embrace the requirements of the engineering students, and will earn appreciation of all the fellow teachers.
The author’s responsibility here is to stress abundantly that he lays no claim to the original research in preparing this text. Many of the subject 2011 matters that are available in the works of eminent authors have been made freely. Perhaps what he may claim, in all modesty, is that he has tried to fashion the vast amount of materials available from primary and secondary sources into coherent body of description and analysis.
