About Book:
We are pleased to bring out our fully revised eleventh edition of “Power Plant Engineering”. This book is written to serve the needs of undergraduate students embarking introductory course in Power Plant Engineering. This book is designed to meet the requirement of revised syllabus prescribed by the Anna University Chennai Trichy, Coimbatore & Tirunelveli for 5th Semester EEE and 7th Semester Mechanical Engineering students of its affiliated college.
This book consists of 5 units as Follows
Unit I deals with the introduction to mechatronics systems such as concepts, need, emerging areas, and clas:ification of mechatronics II also deals with different types of sensors and transducers such as potentiometers, LVDT, capacitance sensors strain gauges, eddy current sensor, Hall effect sensor, temperature sensors, 1 gnt sensors with simple illustrations, examples, advantages, disadvantages and applications.
Unit 2 is concerned with the Microprocessor system, architecture, pin configuration, addressing modes. Instruction set helps to design a system and the timing diagram shows how the operations are performed. Further it deals with basics of microcontroller,
Unit 3 addresses the representation of various systems and their knowledge. Block diagram representation, interfacing mechanism and their functions are covered with simple description. It also deals with the temperature control and stepper motor control, 1heir operation and implementation with programs.
Unit 4 provides introduction to programmable logic controllers, basic structure of PLCs, input and output devices, ladder programming and practical examples.
Unit 5 illustrates construction and working principle of different types of stepper and servo motors with their advantages and disadvantages. It also covers design concepts of mechatronic systems and case studies Such as pick and place robots, engine management systems, and automatic car park barriers.
Important solved questions and past examination question paper’s solved questions have been added under each unit which will enable the students to score high marks in the University examinations. In addition to this, two mark questions and answers are added at the tail end of each unit.
With these features, we sincerely hope that this book would serve as a valuable text for the students.
