PREFACE

The aim of this textbook is to teach students to analyze processes and develop network strategies to operate them safely and economically. It is intended to cover the basic needs of Instrumentation students for first undergraduate course in industrial data networks.

Designing a network system involves identification and requirements of the has customer along with the capital cost. Invention of digital networks has with revolutionized implementation of bus technology. Industrial data network is a subject of study with its own challenges related instrumentation engineer science and practice. Mainly the design of networks and bus should be perceived as an engineering task by understanding the physical requirement in a network.

The textbook is divided into five parts Part I represents general data network fundamentals. Part II deals with the various types of internetworking devices advantage and disadvantages. Part III explains about the HART and Profibus design and implementation. Part IV covers the MODBUS and Foundation Field bus technology. Part V is all about the importance of Ethernet and radiocommunication. We wish to express our profound thanks to our Management and colleagues who helped in making this book a reality.
