About Book:

           It was about 47 years ago that the first edition of this book was published. A thorough revision of the book has been done now for the fourteenth edition. Care has been taken of even the minor details. As per latest trends, a new chapter,’Telematics,Connectivity and Infontainment’ has been added. Besides,to rationalize further,chapter on ‘Miscellaneous Topics’ has been bifurcated into two separate chapters,viz., ‘Automobile Industry’ and ‘Miscellaneous Topics’. Further, care has been taken of even the minor details. A few topics have been added to make the matter more understandable. Exclusive use of the S.I. system of units has been made for all the numerical problems in the book.

            It is hoped that the revised book will be more useful to not only the students of the engineering colleges and polytechnics for whom it is primarily meant, but also to the serving engineers in the automobile field. The book is also expected to serve the students aspiring for the membership of professional bodies.

            Since 1969,when the first edition of this book was brought out,automotive technology has undergone tremendous change. Since then many techniques have become obsolete and were replaced by the new innovations. However, for the sake of continuity, Wider perspective and better understanding of the students/readers,many of such obsolete techniques have been retained in the book,along with the newer ones.

            However, as the man is never perfect, some errors and omissions may have been left still. The author will be highly indebted for any suggestions to improve the book further.
