About Book:
We are immensely pleased to bring out the book Metrology and Measurements for Engineering and Technology studies. This book is written to serve the needs of undergraduate students embarking introductory course in Metrology and Measurements. This book is designed to meet the requirement of revised syllabus prescribed by the Anna university, Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore & Tirunelveli effective from June 2015 for 5th Semester Mechanical Engineering students of its affiliated colleges.
Unit I deals with the basics of metrology in which units and standards, measuring instruments, need, elements, environment and their effect on precision and accuracy, and errors in measurement are discussed in detail.
Unit II has an in-depth dealing of linear and angular measuring instruments such as limit gauges with its design, concepts of interchangeability and selective assembly, bevel protractor, clinometers, angle gauges, spirit levels, sine bar, angle alignment telescope, autocollimator.
Unit III deals with the advances in metrology which includes detailed description of laser metrology, coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and machine vision system.
Precision instruments based on laser, laser interferometer, machine tool metrology, coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and computer aided inspection have been discussed in Unit IV.
Measurements of force, torque, power, flow, temperature are treated elaborately with good examples in Unit V.
Each unit contains two mark questions and answers, review questions Model question papers are added at the tail end of this book.
With these features, we sincerely hope that this book would serve as a valuable text for the students.
